Honoring Those Who Protect and Serve
"Heroes of Service at Ground Zero"

This evening, we are here to honor those whose lives
were lost during the attack on America.

One year ago, as the dirt and ash rained down,
we became one color.

As we carried each other down the stairs of burning buildings,
we became one class.

As we lit candles of waiting and hope,
we became one generation.

As the firefighters, police and rescue workers
fought their way into the inferno,
we became one gender.

As we fell to our knees in prayer for strength,
we became one faith.

As we mourned together the great loss,
we became one family.

And now, as we retell with pride of the sacrifice of heroes,
we become one people.

We are America.

President Paula Harris introduced Dr. Robert Williams who served as an investigator to the World Trade Center Disaster. Dr. Williams' presentation, "A Forensic Dentist's Perspective From NYC Ground Zero", was well attended by two hundred members and dental hygiene students from Collin County Community College Dental Hygiene Program and Caruth School of Dental Hygiene, Baylor College of Dentistry. The meeting was highlighted when DDHS presented "We Remember" commemorative awards for extroadinary service to our country.
