Volunteer OpportunitiesThe Texas Dental Hygienists' Association: "Sealants Across Texas" project has helped thousands of underpriviledge children receive preventive care. This program meets the needs of children that otherwise would not receive preventive dental sealants. Every year members of the Dallas Dental Hygienists' Society as well as other Texas components donate their time to help children in need. The annual "Sealants Across Texas" event is held in October each year. In past years, this event has been conducted at the Children's Oral Health Center. For 2007- 2008, DDHS has been asked to conduct a Fluoride Varnish Program for K- 6th grade students at Mark Twain Elementary for Richardson ISD (200-300 students). The program consists of two Fluoride Varnish preventive treatments a year delivered by DDHS volunteers, an annual screening day with Baylor College of Dentristry, a day of oral hygiene classroom education from DDHS volunteers and financial provision for the Fluoride Varnish by Dallas Dental Hygienists' Society, Inc. ***The fluoride varnish services provided for Mark Twain Elementary students in 2006-2007 included two treatments per student totaling $13,560 in monetary values, when compared to Dallas area prices.***. |

The Children's Oral Heath Center Of Dallas provides free dental care for indigent children aged 6-18 enrolled in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). The Center is operated based upon administrative and financial support provided by the North Dallas Park Cities Kiwanis Club, dental professionals and various donors. Volunteer hygienists provide preventive care. The Center, located at 5216 Monarch in Dallas, is a 501 (C) (3) non profit corporation. The Center treats as many children as there are available volunteer dentists and hygienists. Volunteers, both onsite and in private offices, render dental treatment to between two and three thousand patients per year.
Each patient must meet the following requirements:
Financially disadvantaged (school lunch program eligible) children aged 6-18 enrolled in the Dallas Independent School District
School nurses must recommend each child as needing dental care
The Center can have a profound impact on thousands of children every year. Please call today to schedule 3 hours of hygiene services. You will be rewarded! (214) 827-1724.
